St. Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun and mystic who lived from 1905 to 1938, is known for her devotion to the Divine Mercy and for her role in popularizing the Divine Mercy Chaplet. According to her Diary, St. Faustina received revelations from Jesus, urging her to promote the message of God's mercy and to encourage the recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. The Chaplet was given to St. Faustina as a way to pray for God's mercy on the world and for the salvation of souls. In her visions, Jesus taught St. Faustina the specific prayers and intentions that make up the chaplet. He instructed her to pray it for the sake of her own soul and the souls of others, particularly those who were dying.
